Champions League Pot 1 Is Already Locked - and the Conference League Still Has Nobody

Share:𝕏f

The 2026/27 league-phase draws are three weeks away - the Champions League on 27 August, the Europa League and Conference League the day after. Thirteen second legs are being played tonight, and the play-off round follows on 18 and 25 August. Until then the pots are half-built. Here is exactly what each one looks like right now, and what tonight can still change.

How a Pot Is Actually Decided

One number does all the work: the club coefficient, the points a club has banked in Europe over the last five seasons. Rank all 36 qualified clubs by it, cut the list into four blocks of nine, and you have Pots 1 to 4 - each club then draws two opponents from every pot, eight matches in total. The Conference League runs the same logic on a different shape: six pots of six, one opponent from each, six matches. The one twist is the safety net - a club with little or no recent European record does not get a zero. UEFA floors it at 20% of its own country's five-year coefficient, which is why newcomers like Como 1907 and Sunderland enter the ranking with a real number rather than nothing.

Champions League Pot 1: Locked, Before a Ball Is Kicked

  • 🇪🇸 Real Madrid (Spain) - 152.5
  • 🇩🇪 Bayern München (Germany) - 150.5
  • 🇫🇷 Paris Saint-Germain (France) - 139
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Liverpool (England) - 130
  • 🇮🇹 Internazionale (Italy) - 127
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Manchester City (England) - 125.5
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Arsenal (England) - 119
  • 🇪🇸 FC Barcelona (Spain) - 117.25
  • 🇪🇸 Atlético Madrid (Spain) - 107.75

This is the one part of the picture that cannot move. The ninth and final Pot 1 place belongs to Atlético Madrid on 107.75 - and the highest-rated club still stuck in qualifying is Bodø/Glimt on 96.5. Nobody left in the play-offs can climb over that line, so these nine are already sorted three weeks before the draw. Note who is absent: no English club beyond Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal, and no Italian club beyond Internazionale.

Pot 2 as It Stands

  • 🇮🇹 AS Roma (Italy) - 106.75
  • 🇩🇪 Borussia Dortmund (Germany) - 106.75
  • 🇵🇹 Sporting CP Lisbon (Portugal) - 91
  • 🇧🇪 Club Brugge (Belgium) - 88.75
  • 🇳🇱 PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands) - 88.25
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Aston Villa (England) - 85
  • 🇵🇹 FC Porto (Portugal) - 84.75
  • 🇪🇸 Real Betis (Spain) - 82.5
  • 🇳🇱 Feyenoord (Netherlands) - 81.5

Pot 3 as It Stands

  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Manchester United (England) - 79.5
  • 🇫🇷 Lille OSC (France) - 74.75
  • 🇺🇦 Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine) - 68.75
  • 🇹🇷 Galatasaray (Türkiye) - 67
  • 🇮🇹 Napoli (Italy) - 64
  • 🇩🇪 RB Leipzig (Germany) - 64
  • 🇪🇸 Villarreal (Spain) - 61
  • 🇨🇿 Slavia Praha (Czech Republic) - 59.5
  • 🇩🇪 VfB Stuttgart (Germany) - 29.5

Pot 4: Two Clubs and Seven Empty Seats

  • 🇮🇹 Como 1907 (Italy) - 19.99
  • 🇫🇷 RC Lens (France) - 12

Twenty-nine clubs are through, which fills Pots 1, 2 and 3 completely and leaves Pot 4 with just two names. But that is a snapshot, not a forecast - the seven clubs still to come do not simply drop into the bottom pot. They slot in wherever their coefficient puts them, and everyone below gets pushed down.

Playing for a Pot Tonight

Twenty-four clubs are still chasing the seven remaining Champions League places - twenty of them in second legs tonight, four already waiting in the play-off round. Ranked by the coefficient they would bring with them:

  • 🇳🇴 Bodø/Glimt (Norway) - 96.5
  • 🇹🇷 Fenerbahçe (Türkiye) - 78.75
  • 🇬🇷 Olympiakos Piraeus (Greece) - 76.75
  • 🇭🇷 Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia) - 68.5
  • 🇫🇷 Olympique Lyon (France) - 65.75
  • 🇷🇸 Red Star Belgrade (Serbia) - 59.5
  • 🇸🇰 Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) - 57
  • 🇧🇪 Union Saint-Gilloise (Belgium) - 56
  • 🇨🇿 Sparta Praha (Czech Republic) - 51.75
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Celtic (Scotland) - 51.5
  • 🇸🇮 NK Celje (Slovenia) - 40.5
  • 🇦🇹 Sturm Graz (Austria) - 34
  • 🇬🇷 AEK Athens (Greece) - 30.5
  • 🇦🇹 LASK (Austria) - 25.5
  • 🇮🇱 Hapoel Beer-Sheva (Israel) - 20
  • 🇰🇿 Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan) - 18.5
  • 🇳🇱 NEC Nijmegen (Netherlands) - 13.59
  • 🇧🇬 Levski Sofia (Bulgaria) - 10
  • 🇦🇿 Sabah FK (Azerbaijan) - 6.5
  • 🇦🇲 Ararat-Armenia (Armenia) - 6.5
  • 🇳🇴 Viking Stavanger (Norway) - 6
  • 🇸🇪 Mjällby AIF (Sweden) - 5.93
  • 🇱🇹 Kauno Žalgiris (Lithuania) - 5
  • 🇩🇰 AGF Aarhus (Denmark) - 1.5

One name breaks the pattern. Bodø/Glimt carry a coefficient of 96.5 - higher than Sporting CP, Club Brugge, PSV or Aston Villa. If the Norwegians survive tonight and then the play-off, they walk straight into Pot 2 and push Feyenoord down into Pot 3. Run that logic across the whole list and the effect at the bottom is brutal: if the seven highest-rated contenders all come through, Napoli and RB Leipzig - both on 64 - are squeezed out of Pot 3 and into Pot 4, alongside Villarreal and Slavia Praha. The clubs already qualified have no say in it. They just watch their seeding move.

Europa League: 13 of 36 Seats Filled

  • 🇩🇪 Bayer Leverkusen (Germany) - 110
  • 🇳🇱 AZ Alkmaar (Netherlands) - 81.88
  • 🇮🇹 Juventus (Italy) - 79.25
  • 🇮🇹 AC Milan (Italy) - 69
  • 🇪🇸 Real Sociedad (Spain) - 62
  • 🇫🇷 Olympique Marseille (France) - 62
  • 🇫🇷 Stade Rennais (France) - 41
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Crystal Palace (England) - 26.38
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 AFC Bournemouth (England) - 23.9
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Sunderland AFC (England) - 23.9
  • 🇪🇸 Celta de Vigo (Spain) - 20.25
  • 🇵🇹 União Torreense (Portugal) - 14.63
  • 🇩🇪 1899 Hoffenheim (Germany) - 7

Thirteen clubs, twenty-three seats still open - so no Europa League pot can be called yet. Bayer Leverkusen top the list on 110, but the club most likely to challenge that is not even in the competition yet: Benfica, on 107, are still playing Europa League qualifiers. The other 23 seats come from two directions - clubs winning their way through the Europa League play-off, and clubs losing the Champions League play-off and dropping in. Fenerbahçe are the clearest example of that second route: through tonight and then the play-off, and they are a Pot 3 club in the Champions League; beaten in the play-off, and that same coefficient makes them one of the strongest seeds in the Europa League instead.

Conference League: Still Nobody at All

Every one of the 36 Conference League places runs through a play-off - there is no direct entry at all, so the pots are completely empty and will stay that way until 26 August. What the field will look like is still readable from the coefficients of the clubs in contention, and some of them are big: Atalanta, still to play their play-off, would arrive with a coefficient that beats most of the Europa League clubs already qualified. The strongest names still in the running:

  • 🇮🇹 Atalanta (Italy) - 90
  • 🇵🇹 Sporting Braga (Portugal) - 82.25
  • 🇩🇰 FC København (Denmark) - 77.38
  • 🇳🇱 Ajax (Netherlands) - 70.25
  • 🇦🇿 Qarabağ FK (Azerbaijan) - 69.25
  • 🇩🇰 FC Midtjylland (Denmark) - 63.75
  • 🇫🇷 AS Monaco (France) - 63
  • 🇩🇪 SC Freiburg (Germany) - 59.5
  • 🇧🇪 KAA Gent (Belgium) - 58
  • 🇦🇹 Rapid Wien (Austria) - 43.25
  • 🇬🇷 Panathinaikos (Greece) - 41.25
  • 🇷🇸 Partizan Belgrade (Serbia) - 32.5
  • 🇪🇸 Getafe CF (Spain) - 19.41
  • 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Brighton & Hove Albion (England) - 16

Snapshot as of 11 August 2026, before tonight's second legs kick off. Club coefficients are the five-year totals for the 2021-22 to 2025-26 window - the figures the 2026/27 draws are seeded on - taken from this site's own coefficient database, with the 20% association floor applied to clubs without a recent European record. Qualifying brackets follow UEFA's round-by-round draw announcements. Draw dates: Champions League 27 August, Europa League and Conference League 28 August. Pot allocations below Pot 1 are provisional and will move as the play-offs are decided.
